The next day we traveled to Deal’s Gap to tackle the Tail of the Dragon. I highly recommend Deal’s Gap Motorcycle Resort – unless you emphasize resort (see previous post). The goal here is to run the dragon, not luxuriate. Necessities are provided, including TV and ice, and everything is clean. Don’t, however, count on wifi or cell phone reception.
None the worse for my fall the day before, I pose next to the resort sign. Tail of the Dragon begins off to the right of the picture (in direction of this dragon’s snout).
These folks in the resort parking lot – as well as the line-up of bikes – give an idea of how popular Deal’s Gap Motorcycle Resort is. These are folks caring for their bikes and readying for the ride. Someone took off about every ten minutes, and returned about 30 minutes later – depending on how daring they were.
The Tree of Shame: Parts and parts of the rides that gave a lot of pain for very little gain (their words).
